Christmas Break:
December 19th-January 2nd. Return to school on January 3rd.
Canned Food Drive:
Congratulations! Our class won a pizza party for donating the most canned food items out of the entire third grade! Thank you for making Christmas a little brighter for struggling families in our community!
Happy Holiday:
I feel especially blessed this year to be working with such a wonderful, positive, and bright group of students. As gift, I have provided every child in our class with a copy of “Ready Freddy: A Very Crazy Christmas.” The message behind the book is: although Christmas can be crazy at times, it’s important to remember Christmas is about love and family. I hope you find time share in the same joy as we do in room 308. Please enjoy your family this Christmas season and we’ll see you in the new year!

WEEK 13
We have started multiplication this week. Please consider purchasing a pack of flashcards. Facts 1-10 MUST me memorized by May. Daily practice at school and at home will help your child reach this goal.
Story:
We will not have a story this week. Instead, we will study various Christmas Classics and practice writing and using winter words.
Social Studies:
Our social studies test is will be on Tuesday, December 13th. A study guide went home yesterday. If the study guide is signed by a parent and returned on the day of the test extra credit will be awarded.
Winter is Here!:
Please make sure your child is dressed properly for outdoor recess. Winter coats, hats, and gloves are a must on these cold winter days.
Candy Bars:
Please don’t forget to send your wrapped candy bar to school for the candy bar gift exchange. It is very important that we have enough candy bars for everyone to participate.
Christmas Party:
Our class Christmas Party will be held on Thursday, December 15th from 8:15-9:15a.m. We have a “Candlelight” breakfast provided by our parent Christmas Party Committee. Later in the day our students will have a candy bar gift exchange. Please send a wrapped, regular sized candy bar to school by December 13th. I will store them here until the exchange. PLEASE, no king size candy bars—or names on the wrapped candy—it’s not fair for all.

Can Food Drive:
Cardinal Elementary is partnering with St. Thomas Food Pantry to provide as much food as possible to families in need during these tough economic times. Each classroom’s donations will be collected and tallied daily. The class from each grade level that collects the most items from November 14th to December 9th will receive a pizza party from Mrs. Snow! Please clean out your pantry and start a collection of food items to help families in our district! My class won last year...can we do it this year? So far, we have 184 canned food items to donate! We are the top class in the whole school! The students in our class set a goal of collecting 400 items. If each student brought in 17-18 items we would reach our goal. Thank you to the families that have donated. Your generosity will be spread to needy families in our community/district. If our class reaches their 400 class goal, whether they win the pizza party or not, I promised them a movie day!

The Muskegon Lumberjacks has partnered with our school to encourage students to participate in AR. We will have a Lumberjack come to our school and visit on November 28th! The players are even going to pass out prizes! Our first AR goal period to win a Lumberjack pencil is October 31st-Nov 28th. We would like to tell you about a program, sponsored by the Muskegon Lumberjacks called the Reading Caravan. The Reading Caravan is a partnership program between the Lumberjacks and local classrooms to encourage students to set reading goals, which will be assessed using the Accelerated Reader program. (Where students read books and take quizzes on the computer at school to answer comprehension questions on that book.) On Tuesday, September 27th, our class will be traveling down to the L.C. Walker Arena for a Faceoff Rally. We will be there from 10:30-12:30 p.m. Due to space limitations, parent chaperones will not be able to join us. There will be an on-ice multimedia presentation, a hockey demonstration, and games on the ice. Throughout the season, there will be other components of the program as it unfolds, such as having a Lumberjack visit the classroom to read, tracking Accelerated Reader points, and an invitation to the Education Day Game for those students who meet their goal.

WEEK 2
Scissors: I purchased scissors for our class this year. They are not working out the best. If possible, please send a pair of child size scissors for your child to keep in his/her desk. Thanks!
We have been studying Michigan, maps, place value, short vowel sounds, cursive, and how to write personal narratives!
Reading Homework:
I was very disappointed in the participation of the weekend reading homework that was due on Tuesday. Only 15 out of our 25 students completed the assignment and turned it in on time. I am giving students another chance at this. I will send the same assignment home on Friday. Students that did complete the assignment and turned it in on time will have a free weekend reading homework pass. All others will be expected to complete the assignment and turn it in on Tuesday, September 20th. Every week this assignment is logged in to the grade book. It is very important!
FIELD TRIP TO KISKEY SCIENCE CENTER!
We will take a field trip to Kinskey Science Center on Thursday, September 22nd
We will leave school at 9:00 am and return about 2:00pm.
The permission slip and $4.00 fee is due by Monday, September 19th.
Students may bring a sack lunch from home or order a sack lunch from the kitchen.
Dress for the weather: rain or shine.
We may get dirty.
Wear sneakers or boots.
No crocs or sandals .
No glass bottles in lunches.
Students must ride the bus.
We have been studying Michigan, maps, place value, short vowel sounds, cursive, and how to write personal narratives!
